Unemployment report shows stagnant economy in February
The latest unemployment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics had unemployment stay at 9.7% while employment lost 36,000 jobs. In other words, the economy is still stagnating.
Manufacturing employment fell steadily until December 2009, but since then it has been flat. In nonseasonally-adjusted numbers, the economy lost jobs but in seasonally-adjusted numbers it gained jobs. The following table shows the manufacturing employment numbers in thousands for the last three months:
