Scientific Fraud in Anti-Choloquine Study?
Jesse Richman, 6/3/2020
Emergencies often present ripe opportunities for fraud, and apparently this includes a share of the medical studies purporting to examine treatment outcomes.
A set of studies published in leading medical journals claiming negative outcomes from patient treatment as a result of Choloquine seem to be based upon fraudulent data. For more see this Guardian story.
Of coursewe don't know for certain, but all of the indicators seem to point in that direction. Every time I teach Advanced Statistical Techniques to PhD students at ODU I have them choose a published study to replicate. Every year more than one student finds inaccuracies in the published paper, usually small ones, but sometimes more substantial. This is why one of the journals in political science, the American Journal of Political Science, insists that authors provide the journal with the data prior to publication.
